SIM has been in Ethiopia for decades. For over one week our Team worked in an SIM soccer camp in the southern tribal region, of Ethiopia, in a beautiful setting called Camp Langano. The Camp Langano area has around 6000 residents, there is one medical clinic, which is run by SIM.
A special newly established orphanage, by SIM, is called the “House of Hope. It is specifically for orphans whose mother died in childbirth. It is standard practice in Ethiopia if the mother dies to allow the newborn to die also and then bury the two together, since the father has no way to care for the infant. The “House of Hope”, fulfills a desperate need, is currently full.
The house of hope, currently has no water filter to filter impuritites from a well, and all water ishas to be boiled before used. For around $500 we can supply them with a new filtering system. If you would like to help us with this little project please let me know. my email is

Aids in Ethiopia and other health difficulties
In Ethiopia over 2 million people have AIDS . Most of these contacted the disease through unfaithful partners in heterosexual relationships. It is estimated that as many as 1 million have died from AIDS over the last 20 years. Life expectancy for the general population has declined to 47 years from 49 years as reported in 1995.
Other Major killers in Ethiopia include: Malaria, Bacterial Diariah (from drinking bad water), Hepitatis, and Typhoid fever. There is only 1 Doctor per 25,000 people.

Ethiopia a country that struggles..
Ethiopia is one of world’s oldest countries, and has a population of 78 million. The country is strategically located in what’s called “The Horn” of Africa, boarded by countries which have much instability such as Somalia, Sudan and Kenya. Severe and repeated droughts, followed by famines have taken a toll on Ethiopia. In the past 20 years, 1 million have died and there have been over 1 million refuges as a result of these famines. This has caused Ethiopia to be one of the poorest countries in the world. Families, struggling for survival, have had little time for education, and currently only one in three can read. Over half the population is currently under 15 years old. The average family income is about $15 US dollars a month.
