Ethiopia a country that struggles..
Ethiopia is one of world’s oldest countries, and has a population of 78 million. The country is strategically located in what’s called “The Horn” of Africa, boarded by countries which have much instability such as Somalia, Sudan and Kenya. Severe and repeated droughts, followed by famines have taken a toll on Ethiopia. In the past 20 years, 1 million have died and there have been over 1 million refuges as a result of these famines. This has caused Ethiopia to be one of the poorest countries in the world. Families, struggling for survival, have had little time for education, and currently only one in three can read. Over half the population is currently under 15 years old. The average family income is about $15 US dollars a month.
